Simulator Training: Does It Actually Help for Real Track Days?

· 1 min read · By David Hodge Jr
Sim racing setup

Introduction

“It’s just a game.” Wrong. Max Verstappen has a sim rig on his private jet. If F1 champions use it, you should too.

What Transfers?

  1. Visual References: Learning exactly which tree to brake at for Turn 8.
  2. Rhythm: Understanding the flow of Turn 3-4-5.
  3. Vision: Training your eyes to look up the hill at Turn 6.

What Doesn’t Transfer?

  1. Fear: You don’t die in the sim. This means you might be brave in the sim but hesitant in real life.
  2. G-Forces: You don’t feel the sustained load in your neck.

How to Train

Don’t just “lap.” Practice with intent.

Summary

1 hour in the sim saves you 3 sessions ($300+) of “learning the track” on the real day. Book a Sim-to-Track session with me and I’ll get your references dialed before you even load the trailer.
